Lion dancer arrested for allegedly raping 14-year-old girl

In a city called Sibu, located in Sarawak, a lion dancer has been arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old at a playground near Emma’s Fort in Kanowit . The crime happened on 29th January on a Wednesday morning. The man was a 41 year old man. His wife had passed away so he is currently a widower. He was arrested at his home in Delta Road right after the victim’s mother lodged a police report on the night of 29th January .

After some investigation on the incident, the police department of Kanowit have concluded that the victim was a Form 2 student. She went out with the lion dancer to have a chat at the playground about 5.00 am on Wednesday. When they were chatting, the suspect of the rape asked the victim to have sex with him. The victim did not try to stop him as he pulled down the victim’s pants and kissed her cheek. After a while , the victim asked the suspect to stop but the suspect ignored her. Reports said that after they had sex, the man went back to perform a lion dance and the victim of the rape walked backed to her part time job at the coffee shop.

When the victim returned home, her mother questioned her about the information she received that she and the suspect were seen at the playground. The girl tried to deny the fact that she had sex with the suspect but eventually she revealed the truth about the incident after being pressed by her mother. The CID, The Criminal Investigation Department team placed cuffs on the lion dancer at 1.30pm on Thursday. According to the DSP Tega, the girl has been sent to the Sibu Hospital Specialist Clinic for further medical examinations and checkups. The suspect for rape has been arrested under statutory rape-Section 376 of the Panel Code.

In my opinion, the rampant incidents of rape involving minors represents a clear indication of the burgeoning societal issue of ignorance and the lack of knowledge on how one should protect oneself against sexual exploitation or being taken advantage of sexually. These unfortunate incidents further underscore the importance of imparting sufficient knowledge on sex educations, in respect of ways one should shield oneself from unacceptable bahaviours that could lead to sexual exploitation.

However, due to the lack of imparting knowledge through the formal education system in respect of ways in which one should guard oneself against sexual exploitation and to respect members of the opposite sex, cases of sexual crimes have been on the rise with far reaching impact and consequences on teenagers and their families. It is therefore essential that the relevant ministries channel sufficient resources towards developing the education curriculum that would be instrumental in achieving the objectives in this regard.

This incident as reported in the papers further made me realise the importance of parental supervision in ensuring the safety of their children. It is essential to maintain a close tab of the reading materials or internet contents that the children are exposed to on a daily basis such that they are not influenced which increases their chances of committing sexual crimes for which they would be remorseful for the rest of their lives.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
